Second Sunday of Lent, 2010

28 February, 2010

SECOND SUNDAY

Like Father Abraham we've wandered
these bleak weeks of Winter,
hearts dry as desert land.
Wearied, raise your eyes to stars
beyond our counting.
Parched and desperate,
raise your voice:
"Your face, O Lord, I seek."

Stop, here, on this mountain.
Breathe deep: feel the sap rising,
warming, reaching out.
Hear the groaning of creation;
look and see, today,
the dazzling hope of Spring.

Beat away these ravagers,
dark birds of prey;
keep clean these simple gifts.
It is good, so good,
that we are here,
in the land of the living.
